June 26, 2011 Winners have been announced for the Kidseat Recyclers fundraiser raffle. See the prizes and list of winners here.
On Saturday June 25, 2011 Kidseat Recyclers will be at Sears Chinook Centre. Sears will give a $10 gift certificate for children’s wear to help offset the $10 recycling fee to everyone that brings a car seat to be recycled. We are only accepting 100 car seats. We are also asking that people bring the seats in free of all straps and material.
Recycling Levy Fee: Increased June 1st, 2011
$10 per car seat ($4.20 to our recycler Friendly Earth, $3 to strip seats of all metal and material, and $2.80 to cover shipping and other hard costs associated with the recycling process).
We do ask that you remove the material lining the seats as it saves us from having to make trips to the landfill with bags of seat linings.
If your car seat is not expired, in good condition, clean, and has at least 2 years of usage left from date of manufacturing then you are welcome to donate it to NeighbourLink. (There is no charge for this).

5/23/2011 For immediate release:
On Wednesday June 1, 2011 Kidseat Recyclers will increase our car seat recycling levy fees from $7/seat to $10/seat. We are also asking that people bring the seats in free of all straps and material.
Initially, Kidseat Recyclers had the generous help of volunteers at the Calgary Dream Centre to strip the seats, but as the number of seats coming in has drastically gone up, our volunteers were unable to handle the volume. At this time, we can no longer rely on a volunteer base and will have to resort to hiring individuals to strip each car seat of fabric, foam, webbing, and all metal.
What the levy covers:
$4.20/seat goes to Friendly Earth, our recycler. This type of plastic has a very low value and the cost to re-chip it and package it for resale on the open market is more than what it sells for. So the levy is necessary to offset those costs for the recycler.
$3.00/seat goes to employ someone to strip each seat.
$2.80/seat goes to Kidseat Recyclers to handle hard costs like transporting car seats from drop zones to Friendly Earth, web site management, marketing material, registering ou company, insurance, etc.
Outside of recycling, Kidseat Recyclers is also helping families in need. Some seats that come in are not yet expired and are in good condition. With a thorough inspection (by a trained car seat safety technician), some seats are deemed to be reusable and are distributed to families in need through NeighbourLink Calgary. The levy is still collected at the time of drop off, but a waiver form is completed and if the seat passes inspection, we notify the donor and refund their levy fee via cheque.
Our company is new as is our services, and we appreciate your understanding and support! We’re working hard to keep as many unsafe or expired car seats from polluting our land fill. As we grow, we hope to go car seat green throughout Canada.

Kidseat Recyclers is the first recycling company in Alberta that will ensure your child’s old car seat is properly disposed of with all the plastic being re-chipped and put back into the marketplace. No more filling up our landfills!!!
Now, all we need are your seats!!
Kidseat Recyclers will be holding periodic recycling depots to collect your unwanted seats. Please check our website www.kidseatrecyclers.ca for dates and times of the depots, or simply contact us at (403) 969-1054 and we can provide you with more information.
Our program is a fantastic community service and we are happy to be offering this option for parents and families. The type of plastic that is being recycled does have a recycling levy of $10 per car seat as of June 1st, 2011.
